Lagunas de Campillos Nature Reserve


The Lagunas de Campillos Natural Reserve, declared on July 28, 1989, is a wetland located in the province of Malaga, Andalusia, Spain.

It is a wet zone of endorheic origin of 80 ha of extension, surrounded by 1,046 ha of additional protection zone. It is located southwest of the Laguna de Fuente de Piedra Natural Reserve, within the municipality of Campillos.

The whole, flat topography, consists of the lagoon Dulce, the largest, Salada, Capacete, Camuñas and Cerero. Its waters have a relatively high salinity and temporarily dry out. It contains lacustrine vegetation of reeds and rushes.

The fauna is represented by waterfowl, as well as flamingos, cigüeñuelas, coots and avocets. Among the reptiles we find the ocellated lizard, the bastard snake, the viperina and the water snake. The hare, the rabbit, the water rat, the fox and the weasel are the most abundant mammals.
