Hennow Ludwig of Barfus

Hennow Ludwig von Barfus, first name also Henno and Höno, family name also Barefoot, (about 1720; † 7th March 1782) was mayor and municipal district administrator of Stargard in Pomerania.

He came from the Uradligen old-Westphalian family Barfus. His father, Reinhard Bernhard Friedrich von Barfus (* 1682) was the main man and heir to Kunersdorf. His mother was a born of Bredow. His older brother Albrecht Siegmund Friedrich von Barfus (* 1710; † 1754) became district administrator of the district Oberbarnim.

Hennow Ludwig von Barfus served in the Prussian army, from which he left because of a wounded lieutenant. He first received a position as a salt inspector in Pomerania. In 1758 he became mayor and municipal district administrator of Stargard in Pomerania. During the Seven Years War, Stargard was occupied several times by the Russian army, while Barfus lost his fortune and was once taken as a hostage by the Russian army.

Barfus belonged to the Freemasons from 1775 and was last master of the chair of the Lodge to the shield in Stargard. His successor in office as mayor and municipal councilor became the Stadtsyndikus Johann Gottfried Kirstein.
