The Central Weather Bureau (CWB, Chinese 中央 氣象 局) is the state-owned weather service of the Republic of China (Taiwan). It is responsible for the collection of meteorological, seismological and astronomical data, the preparation of weather reports and predictions and the publication of warnings in typhoons, earthquakes and tsunamis. The CWB is responsible for the Ministry of Transport (中華民國 交通部). Its headquarters is in Taipei, with a weather center for the south of Taiwan and 25 manned observation stations.
The CWB was founded in 1945 under direct control of the executive yuan in Chongqing, 1949 it was transferred to Taiwan with the government of the republic. In the case of earthquake reports, the CWB uses a variant of the seven-stage intensity scale of the JMA used in Japan up to 1996. Single-level Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext
