From 1809, Leussler studied law at the University of Heidelberg, where he became co-founder of the Corps Suevia Heidelberg in 1810. In 1813 he entered the Baden administrative service as a legal trainee, and in 1819 became an assistant professor in Durlach. In 1823, Leussler was appointed an official in Schopfheim and transferred to his hometown of Müllheim in 1828. Here he was promoted to Oberamtmann in 1832 and entered early retirement in 1837.
