Josep Maria Figueras Bassols (Barcelona, 18 December 1928 - ibidem, March 30, 1994) was an entrepreneur and Spanish politician. Biography
Bachelor of Chemical Sciences, its start in the business world was linked to construction. In 1953, Figueras and his friend Josep Ildefons Suñol set up the construction company Fisu, which later became known as Hábitat.
In the real estate sector, it promoted the construction of a large number of homes on the outskirts of Barcelona, as well as the urbanization of the land released after the demolition of the old football field of the F.C. Barcelona, Les Corts. Nevertheless, it was beyond mere construction, being one of the first entrepreneurs of the construction of Spain that was concerned to endow some of its works of architectural excellence, promoting buildings like the Trade, work of Josep Maria Codech (1965) , or the homes of Les Escales Park, by Josep Lluís Sert.
Within the real estate world of Barcelona, Figueras was recognized for being a cultured person and art lover. In 1966, he founded the Center for Contemporary History Studies.
After the death of Franco, Figueras entered politics, promoting in 1966 the liberal party Acció Democràtica, which merged in September of that year with the Catalan Liberal Lliga forming the Lliga de Catalunya-Partit Liberal Català to appear at the future general elections of 1977. After the forceful failure in those elections (only obtained 20.103 votes, 0.66%), Figueras left the policy, being chosen, in 1979, president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Barcelona , from which he led the creation of numerous new business projects or the consolidation of the Barcelona Trade Fair (Fira de Barcelona). Figueras remained at the head of the Chamber of Commerce until 1991. He was also president of the Higher Council of Chambers of Commerce of Spain between 1979 and 1986, and the Trade Fair of Barcelona between 1979 and 1987. Works
