International Exhibition of Handicrafts for Women

The Salon International de l'Artisanat pour la Femme (short: SAFEM) is an international trade fair for women's handicrafts organized in Niamey.

SAFEM was created on the initiative of the Nigerian Ministry of Crafts. The first edition took place in 2000 in the National Museum of Nigra. Since 2001, the fair has been held in the Village artisanal de Wadatta for all odd years. The management of the SAFEM took over the manager Aïchatou Boulama Kané, who was appointed governor of Niamey in 2011. The sixth edition of 2009 had 92,126 visitors and 656 exhibitors, including 440 women. In addition to leather, pottery and wickerwork, food and cosmetics also belong to the product range of the fair. Each issue is given special attention to a changing region of Niger. SAFEM's program includes music, dance and drama performances. Weblinks Edit sourcetext Single-level Edit source text
