Great Southern Railway of Santa Fe and Córdoba

The Great Southern Railway of Santa Fe and Cordoba was a British capital company that built and operated a wide-track railroad network (1,676 m) in Argentina. Its name in English was Santa Fe and Córdoba Great Southern Railway (SF & CGS).

On October 2, 1886, the national government granted a concession to build a railway line from Villa Constitución in the Province of Santa Fe to La Carlota in the Province of Córdoba. In 1889 this concession was transferred to this company that opened the first section between Villa Constitución and San Urbano (Melincué) on April 30, 1890. On July 8, 1890 the line reached Venado Tuerto, ending the line at La Carlota February 24, 1891. On March 11, 1899 the company opened the branch from Venado Tuerto to Rufino to the public.

On September 20, 1900 the company was bought by the British capital company Ferrocarril Buenos Aires to Rosario. The sale included a concession already granted to the Great Southern Railway of Santa Fe and Cordoba to extend the line from La Carlota to Río Cuarto. This stretch was opened on March 26, 1902.
