Krohn played for the first time in the GDR-wide football, after he had risen to the second-class GDR-League with the company racing club (BSG) Motor Stralsund from the Bezirksliga Rostock in 1983.

After the Stralsunder had to drop again after a year, the 1.86 m Krohn changed to the GDR-Oberliga-promoter BSG Stahl Brandenburg, where he was appointed as a midfielder. However, it was only used in the back competition of the Oberligasaison 1984/85. On the 16th day, he came into the team in the match Hansa Rostock - Stahl Brandenburg (2: 1) in the 57th minute. After that, he was only offered once again on the 19th day, but he was only in the starting lineup, but played as an internal defender for only 70 minutes.

For the 1985/86 season Krohn joined the BSG KKW Greifswald, which had previously entered the GDR league. In Greifswald he stayed for three seasons, where he scored 83 goals from the 102 points played and scored eight goals. In the summer of 1988 Krohn changed to the Ligakonkurrenten BSG engine Ludwigsfelde. In the 1988/89 season, with 32 goals (3 goals), Krohn still left the BSG Motor during the first round of 1989/90, and already played in December 1989 for the BSG, which also played in the GDR league Steel Hennigsdorf. In July 1990 Krohn was taken over by the newly formed club FC Stahl Hennigsdorf and played for the latter until the end of the season 1990/91 in the second-class NOFV league.
