Citius, altius, fortius is a Latin phrase that means "faster, higher, stronger". This was the motto of the Olympic Games in Munich, West Germany between 26 August and 11 September 1972; with the five rings of different colors interlaced and with the torch, symbolizes the Olympic spirit. The phrase was spoken by Baron Pierre de Coubertin at the inauguration of the first Games of the Modern Age, in 1896 (Athens).

The motto was designed by the Dominican Fray Henri Didon for the frontispiece of his school of St. Albert the Great of Arcueil. Didon was a friend of Coubertin.

Grammatically, it is formed by the comparative of the adjectives citus, altus and fortis.
