Pobeda (deposit)

For the homonymous articles, see Pobeda.

Pobeda (Russian victory) is a giant oil and natural gas deposit discovered in 2014 in the Kara Sea in Russian waters. The reserves' first reserves estimate is 130 million tons (just under one billion barrels) of oil and 500 km of natural gas. This volume makes it the biggest discovery in the world for the year 2014. The drilling was carried out in cooperation between the petroleum giants Rosneft and ExxonMobil. The deposit is located at a shallow depth of water (81 meters) but 250 km from the shoreline.

However, the production of the deposit will take time, due to the combination of a low barrel price, the relative inexperience of Rosneft in the offshore, and Western sanctions on Russia. > Notes &
