Magnetic separation

Magnetic separation is a process that separates two objects (in which one of the two must be ferrous or have magnetic properties) through the use of separators as magnets.

The method consists in bringing a magnet closer to the mixture in order to generate a magnetic field, which attracts the ferrous compound leaving only the non-ferrous material in the container.

One example is sulfur mixed with iron filings. When a magnet is brought closer to a mixture of iron and sulfur filings, the filings are drawn towards the magnet, separating the iron from the sulfur.

It is a very useful method in terms of separation between materials.
