Historical Museum of the National Police


The Historical Museum of the National Police is a public institution of the National Police of Colombia. Its headquarters are located in the town of La Candelaria in Bogota (Colombia).

This museum aims to expose and appreciate the history and evolution of the National Police in the country, finding information on laws and statutes, as well as records of the forms of punishment imposed long ago to maintain the security of the citizens. In it are objects such as weapons and uniforms that were used by the national protection forces over time. In this museum you can also see different exhibitions of events and criminal acts that have marked the history of the country.

History

The house where the Historical Museum of the National Police is currently built was built between 1923 and 1926 by Colombian architect Alberto Manrique Martín. Its construction was done in honor to the first director of the police Juan Maria Marcelino Gilibert.

This house was the headquarters of the General Directorate of the National Police of Colombia for nearly three decades. In 1959 the board of directors founded the National Police Historical Museum under the name "The Police Forces Museum." On September 26, 1984, this museum was declared a National Historical Heritage in accordance with Decree No. 2390.
