Flag of El Hierro
The flag of the island of El Hierro is divided horizontally into two halves, the upper green and the lower blue. At the pole, a white triangle. In the center is the insular shield. The flag was officially adopted as a sign of the island on May 18, 1987.
The white triangle schematically represents the shape of the island. The white color can have ample meanings, from the mist and the clouds, to the foam of the sea, as well as the flag that crowns every four years the Descent of the Virgin of the Kings. The green represents the vegetation of the island and the blue represents the sea.
The current flag is part of a symbol in the form of a flag that was used in the Downfall of the Virgin of the Kings (patron saint of the island) in 1953.
