Zoë (Holy)
Zoë († 127 or 137 in Attalia) was a Christian martyr and saint. She suffered martyrdom together with her husband Hesperos and her sons Kyriakos and Theodoulos.
Zoë and Hesperos, slave of a pagan gentleman, came from Phrygia according to the corresponding Passio. Her Christian confession had been heard by the over-zealous of the two sons of Caralus, who had tortured the family, refused the enjoyment of the wine and flesh sacrificed to the Roman gods. He had finally burned the four alive, sleeping peacefully, without the fire being able to do anything to their bodies. As a year of martyrdom under the reign of Emperor Hadrian, either 127 or 137 is assumed. Emperor Justinian I had a church named after her in Constantinople.
Day of the Zoë is Catholic and Orthodox the 2nd of May, in Greece also the first Friday after Ostersonntag. Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext Single-level Edit source text
