Relieflinie
Reliefline is a concept from the antique vase painting. In contrast to the black-figure vase-painting, in which the subtleties of the figures were engraved, the details of the figurative representations in the red-figure vase painting were applied to the unfired clay with a brush and clay slit. These drawings were referred to in their most distinct manifestation as "Relieflinie" and were used for coarse boundaries and sharp contrasts. For finer, more detailed markings the sound slit was drawn in a thinner line, which gave color effects.
Only the use of the Relieflinie, introduced by the pioneer group, allowed the further development of the red-figured vase painting, which was ultimately responsible for the triumph of the red-figure painting and the end of the black-figure vase painting Edit source text
