Democratic deficit

The term democratic deficit is used officially by the European Union and the United Nations (UN), to designate organizations that do not develop democratic mechanisms. Dictatorship and totalitarianism are the representative extremes of the democratic deficit. In formal democracy systems, especially in international organizations, the democratic deficit may be due to the non-election by universal, free, direct and secret ballot of the members of the General Assembly of the organization or its leader ( President, Secretary General, etc.), by citizens of democratic countries.

The democratic deficit also includes the right of veto of one country against the criteria of all others, as in the United Nations Security Council.
