Andartat Chativat haNegev

The Negev Brigade Memorial (Hebrew אנדרטת חטיבת הנגב) is located on a hill in the north-east of the Israeli city of Be'er Sheva in the Negev Desert. It is visible from afar and is a landmark of the city.

The memorial was created between 1963 and 1968 by the internationally renowned Israeli sculptor Dani Karavan and serves to commemorate the warfare of the Negev Brigade of the Palmach in the Israeli War of Independence in 1948 and provides information on the conquest of Be'er Schevas and the Negev.

The monument consists of 18 parts. Each part symbolizes another aspect of the story or the desolate environment. For example, a perforated tower symbolizes a watchtower or a water pipe to defend the vital water supply.

The monument mainly consists of exposed concrete and is one of the outstanding examples worldwide for the use of concrete in minimalistic art. Weblinks Edit sourcetext Commons: Monument to the Negev Brigade - collection of pictures, videos and audio files
