The Market for Liberty
The Market for Liberty is a 1970 book on the law of anarcho-capitalism written by Linda and Morris Tannehill, which according to Karl Hess has become "something like a classic "Its first edition was a self-published work, preceded by the self-published work" Freedom Via the Market "in 1969. Like Murray Rothbard, the Tannehills oppose statutory law and defended the use of natural law as the basis of society, however, unlike Rothbard, who aimed to explain what kind of legal libertarian code should create the market in an anarcocapitalist society, the Tannehills saw fit to simply point out that society would not be illegal in the absence of the State. In contrast, the Tannehills, in "The Market for Freedom", take a great deal of time indicating how different companies and organizational structures interact in a laissez-faire society, and how these interactions create controls that ultimately keep crime trends low.
