Monastery Schamhaupten
Monastery Schamhaupten is a former monastery of the Augustinian choristers in Schamhaupten, now part of Altmannstein, in Bavaria in the diocese of Regensburg. Edit HistoryQual
The monastery was consecrated in 1137 by Gertrud von Schamhaupten and her daughter Liutgard. The first choristers came from Rohr and the Stift St. Johann in Regensburg. The monastery often suffered from low revenues, which could not be set aside by choristers from Rebdorf and Bernried. Since 1555 uninhabited, it was dissolved 1606. The monastery goods were handed over by the University of Ingolstadt with the papal approval. Starting from 1471 the monastery served the Muggenthalern as a family retirement. The former monastery church still stands - after a few reconstructions and renovations - and is used as a Catholic parish church. The choir dates back to the 15th century, the longhouse dating from 1654. Only monuments in recent buildings are preserved from the monastic buildings. Weblinks Edit sourcetext
