Marcellin Yao Kouadio received the sacrament of priestly ordination on 29 December 1990.

On 1 July 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him to the Bishop of Yamoussoukro. The Archbishop of Abidjan, Bernard Cardinal Agré, gave him the bishop's ordination on 22 August of that year; Co-conspirators were the Archbishop of Gagnoa, Joseph Yapo Aké, and the emeritus bishop of Daloa, Pierre-Marie Coty.
