Bolcato met the film archivist Henri Langlois in 1965, with whom he built a branch of the Cinémathèque française in Bourg-en-Bresse. In 1968 he founded the band Free Jazz Workshop in Lyon with Maurice Merle, Pierre Guyon and Jean Méreu. He worked in the Workshop de Lyon (with Maurice Merle, Louis Sclavis and Christian Rollet) as well as in the La Marbleite Infernale (including Alain Gibert, Jean-Paul Autin, Xavier Garcia, Jean-Luc Cappozzo, Christianville, Rollet), with whom five albums were produced by 2005, and Sclavis and Patrick Vollat.
