F1 Racing
F1 Racing is a monthly magazine that began to be published in Spain from 1999.
Editor, Matt Bishop, also writes a biweekly column for the AutoSport website, weekly motor magazine and sister publication of F1 Racing).
In July 2005, F1 Racing celebrated the publication of its 100th issue; the magazine is currently sold in more than 20 countries and claims to be the world's best-selling Formula One magazine.
Several well-known journalists and photographers contribute to the magazine. Journalists Peter Windsor and Alan Henry are regular contributors, while the magazine's photographers include Darren Heath, Steven Tee and Lorenzo Bellanca. Damon Hill was a guest editor for the January 2000 issue, which included an interview with Michael Schumacher. He is currently working as a collaborator. Since March 2006, Max Mosley, president of the FIA, has a monthly column in the magazine.
At the 1997 Austrian Grand Prix, F1 Racing photographer Darren Heath realized that Team McLaren's rear brakes were still red in the area of acceleration - not braking. The magazine studied the case, and discovered that McLaren had installed a second brake pedal, which could be selected by the driver to act at will on one of the rear wheels. This allowed to eliminate the understeer and reduce the skid when leaving the slow corners. This system was legal under the regulation of that year, but it was an innovation and therefore gave an advantage to the McLaren team. F1 Racing had its suspicions about what McLaren was doing, but they demanded tests to publish the news. At the 1997 Luxembourg Grand Prix the two McLaren retired from the race. This allowed Heath to take a picture of the Häkkinen car pedalier, including the second brake pedal. The story was published in the November issue of F1 Racing, calling the system "brake steer". Scuderia Ferrari's protests to the FIA meant that the system was banned for the Brazilian Grand Prix of 1998. However, this did not imply any change in the clear dominance of the team that returned to get first and second place by wide advantage in the next big prize.
F1 racing magazine awards annual awards in several categories, such as prizes for the best driver, best team or best car. Since February 2012 the magazine has stopped being published in Spain, because MC Ediciones is in competition of creditors. In May 2013 the magazine is once again edited by Grupo Planeta
