Uptown Records
Uptown Records was an American record company, founded by Andre Harell in the late 1980's, becoming one of the most popular labels of Hip Hop and R & B in the early 1990's, where artists such as Guy , Heavy D, Notorious BIG, Jodeci, Mary J. Blige, Monifah the Real Soul 4.
Uptown was the beginning of the career of Sean "Diddy" Combs, who started practicing and later became a great executive. Combs was instrumental in perfecting Jodeci, as well as signing and producing Mary J. Blige. Puffy was fired from Uptown in 1993, and founded Bad Boy Records, taking a new rapper with him as The Notorious B.I.G.
The label was acquired by MCA Records in 1990. Harell left Uptown in 1994 to become the CEO of Motown Records, switching from Heavy D to being the president of Uptown. In 1996, Uptown disbanded and its artists moved to MCA.
