The medial dorsal-lemniscal pathway is, along with the spinothalamic pathway, the neural pathway through which the information coming from the somatosensory system ascends into the brain. Their fibers are relatively large and of fast conduction, and they transmit positional information on tactile stimulation and movement. Sensory information that comes from the left side of the body ends on the right side of the cerebral cortex, this side change in information processing also occurs with information coming from the right side of the body.

The representation of the map of the body surface is made more precisely by the contribution of the lemniscal system.
