It differs from the wintergold chicken because of the wider black strip over the forehead, the slightly darker bottom and a longer beak. The Canary Gold Chicken lives as a standing bird on the western Canary Islands, such as Tenerife, La Gomera and La Palma. It prefers forests with Canary pines, but also occurs in laurel forests.
