Polixena
For the character of Greek mythology who was the daughter of Priam and Hecuba, see Polyxena.
Polixena or Poligena, was sister of Xantippa and sister-in-law of the prefect of Astigi Probo. Together with her sister were the first two conversations with Christianity, according to the legend attributed to St. Paul. It was martyred in the time of the great persecutions and later elevated to the altars.
Although Paul's purpose of making a trip to Hispania is based on a passage from the Epistle to the Romans (10, 18), modern historiography gives it a legendary fact. The sources of this legend, as collected by Marcelino Menendez and Pelayo are Simeon Metaphrases (author of little faith), and the Greek Mennonio (History of the Spanish heterodox, Book I chapter I. Propagation of Christianity in Spain). >
She is venerated as a saint and virgin, being her feast day on September 23.
It bears the name of Polyxena, a Trojan princess in the literature of ancient Greece.
