Juan Bautista Pujol

Juan Bautista Pujol i Riu (Barcelona (Catalonia), 1835 - 1898) was a Spanish pianist and pedagogue.
He studied at the Paris Conservatoire with Napoleon Henri Reber. When it returned to Barcelona in 1886 it directed the teaching of piano in the Municipal School of Music. His mastery was essential for the creation of a Catalan school of pianists. Among his disciples stand out Isaac Albéniz, Ricardo Viñes Frederic Lliurat and Joaquim Malats. Organized in the Beethoven Hall the first season of symphonic concerts held in Barcelona (1881), with the participation of foreign figures. It also promoted a season of French opera in which the opera Mireille was premiered in Barcelona.
In 1888 he founded a music publishing house and formed a musical collection dedicated to the cult: Religious music, for voice and accompaniment of organ or harmonium. He also left numerous works of the sort of music of salon. Bibliography
