José Garnier
Etienne Joseph Louis Garnier-Pagès.
Étienne Joseph Louis Garnier-Pagès (Marseille, 27 December 1801 - Paris, June 23, 1841) was a French politician and economist.
Posthumous son of Jean Francois Garnier, a naval surgeon who died when his son counted only twenty days. His wife was again married to the teacher Simon Pagès, of whom Etienne had a half brother or half-brother, Louis-Antoine Garnier-Pagès (1803-1878). Étienne worked first in a commercial house in Marseille and in an insurance company in Paris. In 1825 he began to study law and soon began to practice as a lawyer. Opposite the Bourbon restoration, he was active in several democratic societies, especially in Aide-toi, le ciel t'aidera, an organization to prevent electoral fraud. It participated in the revolution of July of 1830 and it became secretary of Aide-toi, le ciel t'aidera, to which endowed with a line of antimonárquica propaganda; in 1831 was chosen by Isère for the chamber of deputies. He advocated universal suffrage and wrote Elements of Political Economy heavily influenced by the thought of Adam Smith. He was an eloquent speaker and a voice known in the fields of business and finance, with marked influence in all parts of the chamber. His half-brother Louis-Antoine Garnier-Pagès (1803 - 1878) participated in the barricades during the July revolution.
