Tantarica
Tantarica was an important fortified ceremonial and administrative center located at 7 ° 16 '30 "south latitude and 78 ° 58' 00" West longitude, in the present Tantarica District, one of the eight districts of the Province of Contumazá located in the Department of Cajamarca, pertaining to the Region Cajamarca, in Peru.
It was probably the capital of Cajamarca culture. Its name can originate in the term quechua tantaricuy, "meeting for a short time".
The site is located on the slopes of the hill of the same name, at about 2,834 m.s.n.m. Archaeologists Hans Horkeimer, Eulogio Garrido and Max Diaz described the ruins in 1944 as extensive estimating that they covered several hectares on the eastern slope of the hill, and "which do not represent a city, but rather a fortress."
Among the constructions, which are made in slabs of stones joined with mud mortar, "it is possible to find passages, narrow doors, in addition to other structural elements, such as paralelepipedas cornices" ( 1). The walls reach in some points of the complex up to 6 meters in height. Notes and
