Laurentum
Laurentum or Laurent was a city of Ancient Rome, located in the region of Latium, between Ostia and Lavinio. The Roman writers claimed that it was the ancient capital of the Latins, before the death of the legendary Latin king, after which Lavinio was the capital. In historical times, Laurentum was united with Lavinio, with the name of Lauro-Lavinium.
During the Empire, Laurentum was the seat of the imperial villa. Pliny the Younger also had a villa in the area.
Laurentius (female Laurentia), meaning "de Laurentum", was a common name that survives under the forms "Laurentino" and "Lorenzo."
