The Landbund arose after the First World War as an interest organization of small and medium-sized farmers. He usually worked closely with the DNVP.

Some regional organizations have also made their own lists of Reichstag and Landtag elections, according to the Badische Landbund, the Hessischer Bauernbund, the Thuringian Landbund and the Württembergische Bauern- und Weingärtnerbund

In 1921, the Landbund was merged with the Confederation of Farmers (BdL) to join the Reichslandbund.
