International Road Federation
The International Road Federation (IRF) is a global platform for dialogue. It brings together the public and private sector as well as members of civil society who consider road infrastructure as an essential component for achieving economic and social development.
The IRF was created in 1948 and consists of about 350 members scattered across 6 continents. It promotes the idea that efficient road infrastructures benefit the whole society. The IRF, through its 3 Centers (Program Centers) based in Brussels, Geneva and Washington, is very active in defending the most important issues for the road industry, that is to say, the financing of infrastructures to technological progress, or road safety to sustainable development. It organizes seminars, working groups and events for very diverse audiences and represents its members in the events.
An IRF Research Council is responsible for conducting research on the issues of road safety, smart mobility, sustainable roads or competitiveness.
A World Executive Board is involved in overseeing the operations of the Federation and provides the secretariats of the three Centers with general guiding principles.
