Giuseppe Albani
Giuseppe (Andrea) Albani (Rome, 13 September 1750 - Pesaro, December 3, 1834) was an Italian cardinal of great importance during the first three decades of the nineteenth century. Although he was never a candidate for the papacy, his role in the election of Leo XII, Pius VIII and Gregory XVI is well known to papal historians. Early life
Although there are few data on his education in his youth, it is known that his priestly studies were done in Siena but in his early twenties Albani returned to Rome to be a domestic prelate for Pope Clement XIV.
Albani came from a family that had had several important members within the Catholic clergy: his uncle was Pope Clement XI, while three other relatives were also prominent cardinals.
