Calc (rune)
Calc is an exclusive rune of the futhorc alphabet. Its name means calyx in Anglo-Saxon and transliterates as "k". There is a version of the rune () that is used for the representation of the double / kk / sound.
The form of the rune is a 180 ° rotated version of algiz, and is identical to the rune yr of young futhark although both represent completely different phonemes.
The incorporation of this rune into the Anglo-Saxon alphabet is late, after the ninth century, as evidence that is not part of the Anglo-Saxon runic poem. Nor is it recorded in any inscription on runic stones or objects of wood, bone or metal as it happens with the oldest runes. It only appears in manuscripts, like the other 3 last runes: cweorĂ°, stan and gar. Bibliography
