Before the new theater was built according to the plans of the architect Eugenio Durán, there were only modest venues for theater productions. After the small theater no longer corresponded to modern requirements in the early 1980s, a demolition was considered. It was purchased in 1984 by the city of Zamora and was reopened after the renovation in 1988.
