Jordan Ballsieper

Eduard Ballsieper joined the Abbey Subiaco as a novice after the military service in 1858 and studied theology at the College of Sant'Ambrogio in Rome. After the ordination of priesthood in 1864 and his doctorate, he worked there for ten years as a lecturer (1865-1875), alongside the dissolution of the church state military chaplain of the papal troops. In 1876 he went to the Affligem Priory in Belgium as a visitor to the Flemish monasteries.
In April 1878 by Pope Pius IX. the Apostolic Vicar for East Bengal (today the Archbishopric of Dhaka, Bangladesh) and consecrated to the titular bishop of Tanasia, he was there for seven years, but had to return to Affligem in 1885 for health reasons and was also officially dismissed from his post in 1886/87. In 1888 he was elected General Abbot by the General Chapter of the Congregation of Subiaco, but died two years later in Subiaco.
