Gernot Reinstadler
Gernot Reinstadler (January 1, 1970 - January 19, 1991) was an Austrian skier. He was considered one of the talents of the Austrian descent team of the early 1990s.
During training for the Lauberhorn downhill event in Wengen (Switzerland), at the moment of entering the last S-turn during his descent, Reinstadler lost control and hit at high speed against the safety barriers of track. One of the skis was caught in one of the barriers, which caused a fracture of the pelvis and serious internal wounds, including massive hemorrhages that required up to 35 liters of blood transfusions Reinstadler died the same night of the accident in the hospital of Interlaken by the extreme gravity of the injuries.
The death of Gernot Reinstadler canceled the edition of Lauberhorn 1991. For the next year's test, improvements were made to safety measures.
