Česnica is a very traditional soda bread in Serbian cuisine that is made especially at Christmas. It is very common to put inside the bread a silver coin that symbolizes luck and health throughout the coming year for the diner of the family who finds it in its portion. The silver coin is always returned to the head of the family, who uses it every year when making bread again. They usually put other things inside, instead of the coin, for example a sliver of Badnjak (a special Serbian oak), a nut, etc.
