Vilasouto reservoir
The Embalse de Vilasouto is located in the municipality of Incio, in the province of Lugo. Located between the parishes of Vilasouto, Eirexalba and GoĆ³, it forms part of the basin of the river Mao.
It has a maximum capacity of 21 Hm3 and occupies an area of 111 ha, having dimensions of 2 km long and 1.5 km wide.
It was built in 1969, with the intention of solving the water supply problems of a large part of the Land of Lemos. The reservoir flooded lands and houses, affecting mainly the parishes of Vilasouto, Goo and Eirexalba. The cores of O Barreal, Illeira and Outeiro were the ones that lost a greater number of buildings. The historical heritage was also affected by this work, since in the place known as Agro do Pepe there are several rocks with petroglyphs that remain submerged during most of the year. Also the old church of San Mamede de Vilasouto was disused, being constructed a new one in the center of the present town.
