Viennese Small Post
Wiener Kleine Post was a city post office in Vienna.
The need for a city post office resulted from the fact that the "big post" was only available from place to place, but not within cities. Founded in 1772 by Josef Haardi, Johann Baptist Schoutten of Bergestraeten and Carl Chevalier de Briennen founded the post office. As the letter-boxes made their mark with handcuffs, they soon received the nickname "Wiener Klapperlpost". In 1785 the private postal company was taken over by the k. u. k. Hofpostverwaltung, and in 1830 the Vienna Citypost was created.
