Vernon Adair Benson (September 19, 1924 - January 20, 2014) was an inmate defender / gardener, trainer, scout and provisional manager in Major League Baseball. During his career as a player, he was 5'11 "(180 cm) tall, weighing 180 pounds (82 kg), hit with his left foot, and threw with his right hand.
Carrera Benson worked with Keane and in 1964 for the Cardinals World Championship, then moved to the New York Yankees when Keane switched to the Bombers (his 1964 opponent in the world series) in 1965. But the Yankees were in a downward spiral in time, finishing sixth in the 1965 American League. Then they won only four of their first 20 games in 1966, resulting in Keane's dismissal and Benson's resignation on May 7. > Bibliographywiki
