Vermina

Vermin was the son of Sifax, king of the masses, the westernmost Numidian tribe. Mentioned for the first time in 204 a. C., when it forms next to its father in front of its rival Masinisa, to whom they overcome. After the defeat and capture of his father the following year, Vermina continues faithful to Carthage. He joins Hannibal shortly after his landing in Africa, but does not participate in the Battle of Zama, probably because he is recruiting forces in his own domains. He arrives on the battlefield shortly afterwards, under the command of a considerable army. There it is attacked by the Romans and suffers a defeat with great losses. 15,000 of his men fall into battle and 1,200 are taken prisoner. Vermina himself managed to escape with difficulty in the company of some horsemen. He has no choice but to surrender. In 200 BC sent an embassy to Rome, asking for forgiveness, and begging the senate to consider him as king, ally, and friend. The senate replies that Vermina must first ask for peace, and later send commissioners to his kingdom to dictate the terms in which it would be granted. When the stewards arrive in Africa, they are received by Vermina with the greatest respect. There they conclude a peace treaty whose terms have not been registered, but it is known that most of their hereditary domains pass into the hands of Masinisa. Notes
