Josef Wiesmayr
Josef Wiesmayr (born 9 January 1920 in Melk, Austria, February 27, 1994) was an Austrian politician (SPÖ) and hospital employee. Wiesmayr was a member of the Landtag of Lower Austria from 1954 to 1979.
Wiesmayr went to the Melk Abbey after the Volksschule and finished his school education with the Matura. He was recruited to the army in 1939, and in 1940, he became a prisoner of war in France and did not return until 1946. After his return, he returned to the service of the congregation, and from 1950 on became a municipal type in Melk. Wiesmayr became a district division chairman in 1954 and held the position of vice-mayor between 1955 and 1970. He was also curator of the Landeshypothekenanstalt from 1960 and represented the SPÖ from 10 November 1954 until 19 April 1979 in the Lower Austrian Parliament.
