Feature at the foot of the gallows
Report at the foot of the gallows (Reportáž psaná na oprátce) is a posthumously published collection of writings by Julius Fučík during his stay from 1942 to 1943 in the Pankrác prison in the former Czechoslovakia, to be detained by the Gestapo during the invasion of Czech Countries by the Nazis.
Julius was arrested for being at the wrong place and time (at the time, the captors had no idea who he was, so the main objective was not him). From the beginning, he is forced to make a big decision: to be apprehended alive and subsequently condemned or try to escape on the spot having a little luck. You chose the first option.
The author mainly writes the facts to which he was subjected, such as the torture, the conditions in which he lived and the environment among the detainees. Little by little, through the work of the captors and as part of the psychological torture, he knew who of his collaborators had spoken, giving all the information they had available. He was tortured with beating beasts from the moment he arrived, however, he always stood by not providing information for the capture of more communist comrades belonging to the Communist Party, illegal at the time.
