Three Saints Hierarchs

Icon of the Three Saints Hierarchs. The Three Saints Hierarchs (in Greek, Οἱ Τρεῖς Ἱεράρχαι) of the Orthodox Church are Basil the Great (known as Basil of Caesarea), Gregory the Theologian (known as Gregory of Nazianzus), and John Chrysostom.

They were very influential bishops of the early church who played a major role in the formation of Christian theology. In the Eastern Churches they are also known as the three great hierarchs and ecumenical teachers, while in Roman Catholicism all three are honored as Doctors of the Church. All three are revered as saints by the Orthodox Church, Catholicism, Anglicanism and other Christian churches.
