Operation Ivy (Band)
Operation Ivy was a ska-punk band from California (USA).
She was from 1987 to 1989 from members Dave Mello, Jesse Michaels, Tim Armstrong aka "Lint" and Matt Freeman. Its roots lie in Oakland, California near San Francisco, then a melting pot of the Punkmusik. Operation Ivy is one of the first bands to link the genres Ska and Punk to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. The lyrics are often politically influenced, with the interaction of the punks and skinheads also playing a role.
The band got their big popularity by frequent performances at the Gilman Street Club in Berkeley, California. Shortly after the release of the first and only studio album Energy, published on Lookout! Records, followed by the EP Hectic and two songs on a compilation, the band broke up because, according to their own statements, they were "too successful" and did not see this commercial success as compatible with their punk ethics. Ironically, Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman founded the band Rancid, which has been the first real success in the charts, a few years after the release. They also helped Green Day achieve their success. Discography Edit the source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext
