Ibn al-Awwam
Ibn al-`Awwam (ابن العوام), full name Abu Zakariya' Yahya b. Muhammad b. Ahmad ibn al-`Awwam al-Ishbili (Seville, second half of the 12th century - mid-13th century), was an Andalusian agronomist from the Almohad period, author of the celebrated agriculture treatise Kitab al-Filaha (The book of agriculture ).
This encyclopedic work contains all the agricultural and zootechnical knowledge of its time, but did not see the light until the eighteenth century, when it was found in the library of the Escorial, translated into Spanish and printed in Madrid in 1802 and in Seville in 1878. It was then translated into French and published in Paris in 1865. Since then it has been a in agriculture in Europe. In his works, Ibn al-`Awwam relies on observations and information written by other scientists, such as Al-Dinnouri and Al-Fadel Al Andalusi, citing his works and acknowledging their contributions. He also relies on his own experiences. It describes the "drop by drop" rather than the farmers of the twentieth century, without being credited.
