Walter Heintz achieved early successes, in 1965 with SC Turbine Erfurt winning the GDR youth football championship, in 1967 the junior championship with FC Rot-Weiß-Erfurt. With the Armeesportgemeinschaft (ASG) Vorwärts Cottbus, he played his first games in the second-class GDR-League in the 1968/69 season. After being used in all 30 point games during this season, he was only 19 or 12 times in 1969/70 and 1970/71. After a total of 61 GDR league games in which he scored seven goals, Heintz returned to FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the 1971/72 season. He also played there again in the GDR-League, because the FC had just descended from the Oberliga. Heintz was immediately involved with 20 of 22 points and seven of eight ascents. For the Oberligasaison in 1972/73, he was nominated for the players' trunk, but he was only used in three points. He also played with the second team in the GDR league, where he was deployed 15 times. In 1973/74, Heintz played exclusively in the 2nd team, for which 16 of the 22 points played. After only three league games and 27 GDR league games, Heintz left Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the summer of 1974 and joined the GDR-league center Sömmerda. There he was active for four seasons until 1978 and completed 63 games of the 88 points played in this period. With 20 goals, he was one of the most reliable scorers. At the age of 30 Walter Heintz ended his career as a soccer player in the upper league. Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext
