Rectorragia

Rectal bleeding (or proctorrhaea) is a type of bleeding that involves red or fresh blood loss through the anus, either alone or associated with feces. The origin of this bleeding is usually located in the descending colon and rectum. Low GI bleeding includes both rectal bleeding and hematochezia, which is a deep red rectal bleeding mixed with feces, suggesting that the cause of bleeding is localized to the large intestine or rectum. Rectal bleeding is quite common (more than 10% in some series), with a higher incidence in the elderly. Etiology

The causes of rectal bleeding are diverse, depending primarily on the patient's age. Diagnosis

The causal diagnosis of rectal bleeding is established by combining the history, physical examination and complementary tests.
