Marpesa
Psykter of red figures (ca. 480 BC): Zeus separates from Apollo to Idas and Marpesa. State Collection of Antiquities (Staatliche Antikensammlungen) of the Kunstareal (Munich).
In Greek mythology, Marpesa (Μάρπησσα) was the daughter or wife of Eveno, king of Aetolia.
Marpesa, who was courted by Apollo, was kidnapped by Idas, who took her in a car. Eveno chased him in another car to the river Licorgas; as he could not reach Idas, Eveno cut the horses and launched himself into the stream, which would henceforth be called like him: it is the river Eveno.
Taking Marpesa with him, Idas reached Messenia. There he met Apollo, who snatched the girl from him. The two of them in dispute, Zeus separated them and urged Marpesa to choose between them. Fearing Marpesa that Apolo abandon it when she gets old, it chose to Idas.
